Factors influencing the participation of industry professionals in Work-Integrated Learning in Vietnamese universities: a qualitative approach

Purpose This article explores factors influencing the participation of industry professionals in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) three Vietnamese public universities. The impact unique socio-cultural background Vietnam on WIL is also addressed. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative approach that included focus groups and 15 individual in-depth interviews was applied. In total, 30 key university stakeholders were involved. Thematic analysis employed to identify enablers inhibitors Findings Industry faced more challenges than support when involved Four their stemmed from nine emerged a variety sources. overwhelming number inhibiting indicated difficulties associated with implementing WIL. Originality/value rationale behind limited involvement universities has not been explored previously. holistic understanding all stakeholders’ perceptions non-Western tertiary context may provide leads for higher education policy add international literature.
